Xunlei and Deluge are stand-alone BitTorrent clients that don’t rely on a tracker to find peers and share files. Both clients are very similar as they preform file sharing on top of BitTorrent without using any tracker whatsoever. Xunlei, based on the FastTorrent engine, supports the Xunlei WebEditor, web-based file sharing using a web browser. Deluge is developed by the same group that developed the popular Transmission BitTorrent client. It is available for Microsoft Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems.
Newer and more powerful client development is aimed at enterprises and businesses, as there is significant use of client-server architectures. The more sophisticated clients are able to download and upload hundreds or thousands of files per second at a time. Despite their high scalability, this approach only works for large organizations that must share large-sized objects or blocks of data. The file size is also crucial for high-bandwidth searches that are necessary for large-scale sharing. Users and organizations that do not share any large-sized objects or blocks of data have no use for a high-scaling client. To address the general purpose usage, open source applications have been developed. Website-based clients have also been developed that enable users to use the web browser for file transfer. Most BitTorrent clients can be used as web clients by supplying the web-based file transfer protocol as the protocol for TCP/IP socket file exchanges.
The BitTorrent protocol generally tries not to rely on the server to hold previously downloaded pieces of data. Thus, torrent files are generally P2P. This is the case with Transmission which allows you to download an entire file, iPods, Amazon products, music, movies, software and any other BitTorrent enabled product/object. Metadata or user info, including the trackers, is always transmitted to client-side of the WebBrowsers or software applications for best performance.
